Gökçe Er creates her works on canvas and paper using mixed media. Motif is an implement for her to create the environment that she uses to describe her characters. According to her, ‘motif ‘ has transformed into a tool for mundane consumerism; so she takes this element and reintroduces it as something new; yet keeping it familiar to the everyday eye. She achieves this by covering her spaces with repetitions literally taken from everyday life. With this technique and her style combined, Er plans to combine the mundanely familiar with the new and exciting.
In her works, the concept of concealing is, as well as contextual, a way of putting together the space, the interior. Doing this, she manages to distort the reality of the motif. Just the same as all other things we consume day to day.
Gökçe Er was born in Çorlu, in 1982. She studied painting in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University,Painting Department. She studied master degree in the same university, same department and also had a master degree in Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologne in Italy where she went for an exchange student program. She took part in shows both in Turkey and abroad. Her works are exhibited in institutions such as Siemens Sanat, Istanbul Modern Arts Gallery and Maritime Museum.
The Artist currently lives and works in Istanbul.
