Serkan Demir

Serkan Demir seeks to create a cultural map of impressions based on the political realities of the geography he inhabits. In this map, which he associates with the myths and narratives of the East, he delves into geographical strategies, intervention mechanisms and social practices with an ironic language.

The limits of faith and the transformation thereof in daily life, two of the main issues in his work, constitute the principal motifs of his artistic output in recent years.
Opting for diverse exhibition practices such as installations, moving constructions and small sculptures, the artist describes his work as texts of ‘visual investigation’.

Serkan Demir was born in 1975 in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. He completed his BFA at Gazi University arts and crafts instruction in 1999 and his MFA and PhD at Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts Sculpture Department.
