serkan demir
.artSümer hosts Serkan Demir's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, "Within This World", from May 18th to July 15th, 2023.
The exhibition focuses on the fundamental humanly issues in the world and of the present day. Navigating within the narratives of our time, the artist transfers references from different disciplines of art to a political plane, with installations, sculptures and ready-made objects in different sizes, some of which are large-scale works.
Demir engages in a metaphoric craftsmanship in the strategies that he constructs through intertextual language and turns the route to neighboring geographies with high tidal strength. He takes global construct, political polarizations, and staged strategic moves taking place in the region by utilizing quotations derived from resources marketed to the world by the culture industry, and tries to shape them around the concept of "visual investigation". While constructing these narratives, he acts with the responsibility that comes with coexisting within the same world. He invites the viewers to reflect on the truth of the political, social, and cultural values of the century we live in by delving into the depths of this investigative mechanism. In these works, we hear the murmurs and echoes of our era.
