gözde ilkin
Gözde İlkin, literally worked under the ground for her second solo exhibition. The psychology of this basement floor in the building she lives in seems to have shaped her works. The objects which were found in this place and not used any more created a starting point for the “refuge” concept.
“There were too many ‘me's’…Like I said before; the places we live in shape us. The objects and stories from me joined to the sentences from outside and became "us". I mean, the stories belonging to me actually exist in everyone's life, the exhibition consists of sentences or images which everyone could sympathize with..." The images of works and the wall in Gözde İlkin's second exhibition connect to each other with sentences from conversations which are ironic in themselves, contrasting to or parallel with their images. According to the artist, all of these works have something in common; "reminding of the lands which we live on apart from the personal situations"...Although the artist prefers to forget, she expresses how she could not forget and murmurs.
